This half-day session is designed to introduce trainers and others interested to the world of the specialized medical alert dogs. The workshop is divided into three parts starting with an overview on how this all works for the dog and how this training is different from any other type of training done with dogs. The training methodology will be discussed and demonstrated through videos, with practical applications to real world conditions. Trainers will develop an understanding of the skills and resources needed to train alert dogs. There will be hands on work with any and all dogs brought to the session to allow people to experience first hand how to do things. Then the session will end with lecture about the testing protocols and some thoughts on practical applications for dog trainers.
