Description

There are many vaccines available for dogs, along with a great deal of conflicting and confusing information surrounding them. What vaccines are critical? How do they work? How long is a pet protected? This and much more will be covered in this session, as we discuss the two major types of vaccines (Infectious (Live) and Non-Infectious (Killed/Dead). We will also cover immune response, duration of immunity, efficacy, and revaccination. Vaccination programs, diagnostic tests for diseases and immunity, and laboratory tests will also be covered, including recommendations regarding when and how they could be used.

Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss the immune system
2. Define the Core and Non-Core Vaccines and the diseases each are designed to prevent
3. Identify vaccination programs for puppies vs. adults
4. Evaluate the concept of antibody titers and how to use them
